SuSE is my favorite Linux distro, but that's unimportant:
its implementations of
tail, syslogd, etc. are the same
as any other *NIX's.

However, SuSE's (default) application-configs and syslog/syslog-ng
configs may be different than on your OS of choice: YMMV
